A question for the readers this week!
We’re going to do a post soon about different diaper brands, stores, and options, with a look at the prices of all of them.
Help us get the broadest sample possible by letting us know, in the comments, where you prefer to shop for diapers.
Feel free to mention brands, sizes, etc., or just point us toward the website. (If you don’t shop online, and buy everything at a brick-and-mortar store, we’d love to know the name of that store, too).
Over the next few weeks we’ll be doing a lot of comparison shopping — and we’ll share the results with our readers!
So let us know…where do you buy your diapers?
I buy my diapers from XP Medical on the automatic delivery plan. Good prices, Great service and always on time
Bambino.com
My favorite is the med bellissimo. Is thick but works well for me while out working, and has held up the at night for me compared to, molicare, “any an universe diaper”, and a few others that I can’t remember the name right now 🙂
I buy Bambino diapers on line at Bambino diapers.com. I wear a size medium. My waist is a 32. Love them.
I buy depends medium at rite aid in ny.
Molicare Super Plus, Olympic Pharmacy, Gig Harbor, Washington
Abena Abriform X-Plus, Olympic Pharmacy, Gig Harbor, Washington
Large Abena x-form plus, Large Bambino Classico, Large Tena maxi slip at http://www.b4ns.com
S Large cloth diapers and pants at http://www.babykins.com
Large Tena http://www.well.ca
Large Fabine http://www.buntewindel.de
I buy Tranquil ATN from HDIS.com If you call them they ill help figure out what type and size diaper whould be good for you. Plus they are a good price I spend about %55.00 mon a case of 48.
Cool! I’ve been shopping at Olympic Pharmacy for several years without problems buying what I need and want. I can’t imagine buying online.
Day-to day use – cloth diapers and plastic pants:
Adult Cloth Diaper – medium day weight diapers and medium overnight weight diapers, both birdseye material.
Adult Cloth Diaper – medium Leakmaster and medium Deluxe Leakmaster pants. (Deluxe pants overnight)
Work and extended time away from home – Disposable diapers:
XP Medical – Abena AbriForm X-Plus medium (M4), plastic backed and cloth backed. I prefer plastic backed because the tapes stick better, though noise can be a problem. I use control top panties or pantyhose to mask the noise. I usually use the “cloth backed” style if I’m out in high heat / humidity for comfort over the plastic back style.
Overnight – away from home – disposable with a booster pad:
XP Medical – AbriForm X-Plus M4 with a Abri-Let Maxi booster pad.
Light days, usually at home:
Drug store or Walmart – Tena Super disposable briefs for women. I also wear these sometimes under form fitting clothing, but need to be very careful to monitor the amount of leakage. These do however seem to hold a remarkable amount of liquid, but don’t handle flooding well.
I only go to an “office” a few times a week, and work from home otherwise. I personally prefer cloth diapers at home, day and night, and when away from home for a few hours when I’m able to wear clothes that mask the diaper and plastic pants. Because I’m not completely incontinent, and I hate the feel of a wet diaper, I change two or three times during the day. Sometimes, at home, I wear the diaper but leave off the waterproof pants to allow my skin to breath. Disposables do not allow this flexibility. My real problem is at night when I will usually leak heavily (flood). I normally wear double overnight cloth diapers at nighttime, which allows me to sleep comfortably all night as the added bulk pulls the urine away from my skin. I also found that double cloth diapers are the only diaper that I trust for sleeping on my side (a normal position for me). When away from home overnight, I dare not go without a booster pad inside the X-plus as I have leaked onto hotel bedding before… Being away from home overnight with cloth diapers is a hassle, though I have managed before – out of necessity.
I use tampons monthly, and/or a pad in older panties, under diapers. Getting blood on cloth diapers will badly stain the diaper, and is very difficult to remove.
Those are all good diapers to wear. It’s too bad cloth diapers aren’t sold in stores, that you have to buy them online.
Like several others I buy it online, typically at xpmedical.com or bambinodiapers.com.
Thanks for a great blog!
I buy the AB Cushies because, Bambino dosent ship to Canada
where I get my diapers is not from a store or a website that is retail oriented. I get mine exclusively on Craigslist. For a while I found that people would have leftovers and I will get them for a very low price but I have found a single person who can provide me with Tena Ultra diapers for about 30 to 35 cents apiece. I don’t think I can beat that deal anywhere else. Since II am incontinent from prostate cancer I wear diapers 24/ 7. Can’t beat this deal!
Violet. I am in Canada. http://www.b4ns.com ships Bambino in Canada
yes but they cost more from them, ABUinaverse is cheeper
I but online from Bambino. Abriform Plastic Medium. I love them! The best out there!
ABUniverse works well if you’re on the western side of the country, B4NS if you’re on the east (shipping from ABUniverse is costly). that’s where i go if i’m looking for the premium things, but my Abena M4’s come from Age Comfort. Local here in Ontario. they have a sale on every few weeks at 59.99 for a case with free shipping. B4NS and ABUniverse can’t come anywhere near close to that. and shipping is usually 3 to 4 business days.
it would be nice to be able to get DRY24/7 in canada again, they put the abena M4 to shame.
A thought about cloth diapers…
I seem to be among the minority that wear cloth diapers, though I have had to deal with being “different” for nearly my entire lifetime It’s sometimes hard to blend in with peers and society in general when you have a very personal secret that if brought to light, tends to label you as defective, handicapped, and even lazy by some.
I use this forum as way to learn more about how others deal with the issues of incontinence and a bit of “self therapy”… an outlet to sometimes voice my frustration with my own personal problems. I find this forum to be very thought provoking and usually a very interesting read.
Not that I’m an expert on “anything”, I have learned a few things during the past “thirty something” years regarding dealing with incontinence and the social stigma that people that are forced to wear diapers deal with. I sometimes wonder if being confined to a wheelchair and needing diapers may be “easier” to deal with emotionally and more socially acceptable… Other than a problem with my urinary tract, I’m very healthy and quite fit, not that I couldn’t use more fitness class time…
The fact that I “choose” to deal with my health issue with diapers instead of mind and body altering drugs, surgery, a catheter, etc is a personal choice. I “can” be nearly leak free (during the day) with the right combination of drugs, but at what cost? The side effects are, for me, terrible! There again, the fact that I’m sitting here whining is also pretty pathetic.
Back to my issue of why I’m apparently among the minority using cloth diapers…
Positives: Cloth is natural. It is washable. They don’t contribute to the landfill issues. You can choose the level of protection with different weights and layering. You don’t have to wear plastic pants if your leakage is light and you’re vigilant (and sometimes a Poise pad instead). They are great for side sleepers. Cost per change is much less than disposables (just the cost of laundering, after investment) MORE
Negatives: They can be hotter than disposables where it’s hot and humid, when worn with plastic pants. They can lead to diaper rash easier if you allow them to get too wet for too long. They can be harder to conceal. Changing in public places is problematic. They require an initial investment, which is costly. Storage of soiled diapers and be an issue. Washing and drying cost and time. MORE
My point is that cloth diapers, by themselves are not for everyone, including myself. I have a close and extended family that knows about and accepts the fact that I need to wear diapers. My husband and boys see me nightly in my pajamas and double cloth diapers, and accept me for me, their wife and mom. I have a career that doesn’t require me to be around others daily, so I can be comfortable. I am usually in a dress or skirt so concealing a cloth diaper is easier in public. There are times however where a disposable is definitely the way to go, as I have pointed out several times before. For me though, the percentage is 80% of the time, I’m in cloth. When you factor in the evening and night time hours, that’s close to 50% in itself.
I recognize that cloth diapers aren’t for everyone. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it though.
I buy Depends max with tabs from K-mart or walmart. I too have found great deals on eBay and cregslist. When I buy depends they are most of the time on sale for 10.99.
I get mine from bambino. Usually med teddy.
I sometime go to a local super Wal-Mart. Thing with that is taking a risk of being seen by someone who knows me. I usually go early in the morning maybe on a Sunday morning if so. I get me a pack of Depends diapers with the tape tapes in the mediums, a pack of shield under guardment for inserts and a pack of assurance diapers in the mediums. Sometimes if I have money I’ll order online. I usually order from bambino diapers dot com. I’ll get me the Banico diapers that’s my favorite. Thinking about switching to discreet wearing since I live with others. I think abena abri form x-plus diaper in the cloth backs will do me. I’ve ordered from a lot of diaper Co. in the past. I like tena’s, diapers from ABuniverse, diapers from bambino diapers, HDIS, molicures, Tranqualitys, I like secure x plus. The list is endless. You know it depends on my mood, money, situation at hand, it’s not always from the same Co. If I go out of town. I’ll go to wal-greens and buy wal-greens diapers or CVS. At the end. It always works out. I always end up with some kind of diapers package hiding somewhere. I always on most times I have something to wear. I end up in diapers at the end.
I bought my diaper from SaveExpress in germany.
I buy mine at Walgreens and.on line
I buy molicare super-plus briefs off of amazon. I usually buy a case of mediums at a time.
I buy my diapers online and use bambino for the majority of my diaper purchases. I also shop online at XPmedical when I want Dry 24/7 diapers for diversity and adultclothdiaper for plastic pants. 95% of my purchases are bambino.
I buy mine at a local pharmacy. Unlike most people, I don’t mind driving to a store to buy my diapers.
I get mine from Bambino Diapers. I usually prefer the Extra Large Bianco’s being a bit above average size at 6’3″ 280. I wear management of Irritable Bowel. And the Bianco’s tend to be the most discreet for me.
I buy my diapers from AB universe, Bambino diapers, Secure X plus from CA, I like having a variety of diapers. If I have money I’ll shop online for Premium diapers. I shop sometimes from HDIS. I like to get a deal if I can. Sometimes I’ll go out of town to another bigger town. I’ll go to wal-greens and CVS. Sometimes I’ll just go with store bought diapers. I’ll even go to my local super Wal-Mart for diapers if I’m on a budget and can’t afford my online purchases for premium diapers. I’ll get some Assurance diapers and Depends diapers. I wear the tape on style only. All of it really depends on money, my mood, and my situation. Right now I’m wearing Banico diapers from Bambino diapers. The only problem I have is I live with other people so I need to be more discreet so I’m switching to abena abri form X plus diaper cloth backs. I just wish it was a plain white diaper. Wearing diapers the same old ones isn’t prevalent with me. It isn’t consistent. I like switching around.
I buy mine from Drydayz.com or from Boots chemists, the drydayz ones are very comfotable & absorbant as well as looking the part as they are all white & come in sizes M-Xl I usually buy the XL sized ones because the medium ones don’t fit as well as for the boots range they come in packs of 10 and again I use the bigger ones as the medium is too small they are white with a blue waist and have a wetness indicator that consists of the batch number and is blue, the only gripe i have with them is they are much thinner and their for not so absorbant and the fact the waist is not elasticated.
I usually buy my diapers directly through Bambino or Unique Wellness. I also run a small website that I hope to expand later, but right now all it caries is Unique Wellness at a discounted price. http://www.absupplies4u.com
Hello,
I usually get a mix of medium Bambino Teddy and Bellissimo and Tena Maxi Slip from http://www.bambinodiapers.com. I also get my Abena form-fitting pants from http://www.xpmedical.com. I get my Abena M4s there as well. During the day, I wear Depends Real-fit which I get from amazon.com and depend underwear which I get from amazon.com as well. I wear mediums in both. For night-time I wear the fun ones at home and the Abenas and Tenas for work or travel. Also, I wear GaryWear PUL pants over everything and I get them from adultclothdiaper.com.
Take care,
Colin
I also use Depends Real-Fit on a daily basis. I get them either from Zehrs, Shoppers Drugmart or Walmart.
I get mine from XP medical. Abena M4.
@Ellyn: I just wanted to give you my take on the social stigma associated with wearing diapers from my personal experience of having to wear diapers because of being in a wheelchair. I have to agree, that being in a wheelchair does help with removing the stigma of wearing diapers. So that does make it emotionally easier sometimes. However, needing diapers because of being in a wheelchair does present other complications. For example, I need help changing. In high-school I would always have to get changed by the school nurse or one of the special education teachers which was really embarrassing especially since other than the wheelchair I am perfectly normal. Also, when going out with friends, if the diaper gets full and is close to leaking, I have to either tell my friends I have to leave early or have someone help me. With that said, I have grown to accept wearing diapers and enjoy many aspects of wearing them. Also I really respect that despite the social stigma you still chose what you are most comfortable with. 🙂
I always wear cloth diapers to bed because all disposibles leak. When I’m traveling, I usually sleep in bambinos with a terry lined plastic pant over it. That way, whatever leaks from the diaper will be absorbed by the pants. You can get nice terry lined PUL pants from babykins that work great. Here’s where I get my diapers:
Bedtime diapers:
Adult cloth diaper – large flat gauze diapers with leakmaster deluxe plastic pants
Baby-Pants.com – large diaper pins
Daytime diaper varries depending on mood:
Bambino – large teddy, classico or bellismo
XP Medical – Abriform XL4, L3 or L2 PREMIUM (The L2 premium are for when I run)
AB Universe – Large SDK or Cushies
I have found I like purchasing from bambino.com the best. I have even found many great diapers at HDIS.com. They have many great brands for a good deal. Although they will send you extra mail/coupons if you do not make sure to have them remove you from it.
Please Kevin, don’t be offended by my comments! I was thinking in the broadest sense with regards to those with “recognized” handicaps. I can only imagine how difficult your life might be. I’m quite ignorant sometimes…
Please accept my oppologies!
Well said, Kevin. @ Ellyn, if I may offer a correction, it’s spelled “a.p.o.l.o.g.i.e.s.”.
I usually order from XP medical online. The customer service is great and the prices are too. I am fortunate though to have a store in my area that carries nothing but adult diapers. It is called Personal Bottoms and the owner is a nurse and really very helpful.
@Ellyn: I am by no means offended. I am actually really glad you asked the question and hope I was able to offer some insight. 🙂 It is much better to ask than assume. Which is why I am glad you asked. 🙂 If you are curious about anything else please feel free to ask 🙂 I am an open book. @Jason: Thank you for your compliment.
You’re welcome. I’m 40 yrs old and I’ve never had very good bladder control. Bowel control is ok, but bladder control has always been iffy at best.
I get mines online through Xp medical
People will buy their diapers from wherever they’re able. I buy mine at a store not far from where I live.
I buy mines online because I know that some of the store diapers are not as well absorbent as the ones online. That’s why no store where I live sells Abena X plus or Moliecare in store shelfs.
I know a store close to where I live that sells Abena X and Molicares.
Where I live, I don’t know any store that sells Abena X plus or Molicares. You mostly have to order them online
That’s not a bad way to go. I just happen to know a store where I can buy that’s local.
I wish where I live, I can get Abena X plus or molicare at the store, but sadly the only ones I can buy at the store are Depends
That’s too bad. I’ve tried Depends and I find them to be crap, to be putting it mildly.
Which is why where i live in New England, their are no stores that sell Abena X plus or molicare. Your stuck with Depends or the cheap ones.
We have Attends and Depends where I live, but we also have Molicares, Abena X Plus, and Tranquility.
Lucky you. If I wanted Abena’s or Molicares, I would have to order online. In my state, it’s the cheap store brand.
Where do you live? I live in Gig Harbor, Washington. There’s a store here that sells Abenas and Molicares.
I live in Southern New England. I pref not to give my exact location but my region.
@ Nicky. I understand that. I only give the name of the town I live in, I don’t give my address
Here are a couple sites not mentioned yet (I think) that Ive used to buy Abenas and others:
Magicmedical.com
Drugstore.com
I buy my diapers from XP Medical or Northshorecare. During the day I usually wear an Abena M3 with a abri-let normal booster pad. At night I wear an Abena M4 with abri-let maxi booster pad. I’ve also used the M4 and booster pad when I go to the movies or long car rides or airplane trips. I’ll also use tena slip maxi during the day if I need more protection, I love the soft plastic cover and they fit perfectly.
Ellyn, I have a question that I’d like to ask you offline, please email me at , jen60210@yahoo.com thanks.
Check out Walmart on-line…I buy Molicare, Attends, Prevail and a few others from them. They ship eveywhere and depending on the size of the order the shipping is usually free….the shipping boxes are discreet. They normally ship in plain boxes that say “Walmart”on them or in large plastic/cellulouse bags.
I’ve shopped at a few sites, as well as some local stores in my own town, but I always find myself gravitating towards Bambino and their line of diapers. Not to say that I haven’t found other excellent products in the expansion of my “diaper palette” though. Such as Aww So Cute’s diapers, ABUniverse’s, and so forth. I’m told Abena’s are close to the same level of quality, but that’s a brand I have yet to try. That said, overall I’ve quite enjoyed Bambino’s quality, designs and prices. Which I why I return to them so often for my diaper shopping.
For some reason, Bambinos aren’t available in stores, you have to order online to buy them. I’d buy from ABUniverse if I knew where they were located.
