Vacation is something so many people look forward to for the few times a year that you are actually able to take a vacation. I just got back from vacation a couple weeks ago. I went to Virginia Beach and I was thinking about my ritual of packing and making sure I have everything I need when vacationing and having to wear diapers as well.
I am one of those obsessive people that have to make sure they have more than enough things (i.e. clothes, toiletries, diapers, wipes, etc) just in case. I am a worry wort. Yep, I am the person with like 4 bags for a 3 day trip. That is me! Make fun of me all you want to but I am always prepared 🙂 Anyways, I am going to address packing and then dealing with wearing adult diapers when you are at the beach on vacation.
Packing: I highly suggest getting a roll away luggage bag instead of just a regular bag because these are able to fit your clothes and adult diapers and supplies a lot better AND neater! I am a neat freak so I like my packing organized! What I do is always bring the most absorbent adult diapers I have on vacation (typically Bambino, Secure, and if I have Abena then I will bring them) in order to minimize bringing tons and tons of diapers which takes up even more room. The more absorbent adult diapers allow for longer lengths between changing which obviously reduces the amount of diapers you need to carry. I usually pack my diapers in a whole separate luggage bag (that is just me though). I will usually bring 2-3 thinner diapers which usually are Attends or Tranquility which I will wear on the beach. Thinner diapers are a must on the beach because it is usually hot and I don’t want a huge bulky diaper on when I am on the beach. So, you can go with Attends, Tranquility, or Secure Plus or Secure Premium adult diapers for the thinner ones…or Depends but I hate Depends lol. Make sure you remember to pack lots of powder (helps to keep cool) and loose fitting clothing because when you are the beach you don’t want to feel so constricted when wearing diapers at a hot beach (at least I don’t). Something about the beach instills a sense of “freedom” in me and I like to bring loose fitting shorts, wraps, etc that are just more “flowy” and “liberal”. No tight jeans or pants for me usually unless we go to a nice restaurant.
Dealing With Adult Diapers at Beach: People ask me all the time how do I go about wearing diapers when I am at a beach. Well, most times its on a “how I feel” basis. If there are tons and tons of people around then I try to be a little bit mindful of people’s feelings and I will not just wear a diaper and top…I will usually put my bathing suit bottom over the top of the diaper just so it covers it up some. For guys, its probably easier to cover it up all the way since they wear board shorts or something like that. If there are not too many people or I am just in one of those I don’t care moods then I will just wear the diaper and my bathing suit top (sometimes I have a t-shirt on over my top). I mean, that is how I handle it because its not a big thing to me anymore. It is all about confidence and respect. If you act like it is no big deal and you aren’t acting like some sort of crazy fool on the beach wearing a diaper then most people will not care and assume its for a disability. But, if you are acting super babyish or being stupid then most likely people are going to give you strange looks a lot more often and criticize you – which is rightfully so! So, it is all about being confident and not letting a few looks destroy your feelings BUT at the same time being respectful as well. I am a very very accepting person and if I saw somebody doing something completely out of the ordinary I probably would not care (yeh I may look but not really care) BUT, if they are being stupid, disrespectful, completely inappropriate, hurting someone, etc. then of course I am going to give them strange looks. So, the best advice I can give you with wearing diapers at the beach is to just be confident but also mindful if there are tons of people around.
Let me leave you with a rough statistic before I finish up this post…I have been to the beach probably over a 150 times in my entire life from just age 10 to now (mid 20’s). I can count on probably 1 hand the amount of times anyone has ever said anything to me about my diapers while I am at the beach. And, NONE of them were disrespectful – they were just curious. Of course, I have had some strange looks but by no means is it the majority – and most people don’t notice unless you are all over the place. So out of the thousands of hours I have been at the beach – MAYBE, an hour of those thousand hours was I ever interrupted about my diapers. Hopefully, this helped some of you all gain a little more confidence in wearing your diapers and not letting it ruin a vacation or cause stress BUT also learn to show a little respect as well for others..
Greetings. Very interesting, makes me want to try it out. I do wonder, though, how to handle diapers at a hotel. Maybe this could be a future post. Does one explain the diapers to the staff, request waterproofed bedding, tip the cleaners extra ETC? What about disposal and odor control? Leaks on bedding or furniture ETC? I have always been curious about how people with incontinence, especially fecal incontinence, handle hotel and vacation situations. Have a pleasant day, and stay cool.
ive been meaning to ask how things go at the beach in diapers. good timing with the post. thats cool most people dont mind, even cooler that you just chill in straight diapers sometimes. def makes it seem like not such a big deal in todays world 🙂
I was looking at a different post and I know this is extremely off topic but I thought it would be better I asked this on a more recent post but..
If you were not incontinent would you still wear diapers?
Also take that say you grew up a diaper-less childhood would you still want to wear diapers?
Thanks for the tip. But I rather stay away from the beach when incontinent.
Hey good Post. I go to VA beach all the time but never have the confidence to wear diapers there. As you mentioned its easier to hide since im a guy , but you jus have an amazing way of dealing w/ it. I think having someone around that also knows/wears diapers would help me cope w/ that.
i tought when going to the beach = bathing? :p
if i were to just sit around, i might aswell do it on my porch and/or infront of the pc
Lol I live in VA beach and I don’t have the confidence that you have. Of course it would be easier for me to hide than you so maybe I need to try it some day soon.
i live in southern california , but, its like a ton of miles for me to go to the beach. i have a swimming pool at the house and i will wear my bikini top and diaper there. its really private so nobody but my mom and close friends see me. even when i do go to the beach im usually in a dress and ill never go in the water cause on land im king of the food chain, in the ocean im part of the food chain.
hugggs
ahhh vacationing sounds nice! I haven’t had a vacation in over 2 years…. and I haven’t really gone anywhere since I found myself back in daipers. Of course this isn’t due to the diapers, it is due to the fact that I have been too busy working that I forget about it all the time.
I will be flying home later on this year to see my parents. I have a 10 hour flight from Japan to the USA, and I would feel better about it if i were diapered up. Have you ever flown internationally? do you have any advice about dealing with airlines when you need diapers? I suppose now, when they charge extra for baggage, airplanes are not too diaper friendly…
what do you think?
When I go I go to a nude beach, people there are more ‘open minded’, they do’nt care if I have to wear a diaper or no diaper and there are alot of sanddunes were you have some privacy.
I wear a swim diaper under the shorts. If I wet I just jump in the water and the swim diaper keeps the bm contained enough to get out and back to the room.
I also pack too much and in a separate bag. But that can lead to problems if that’s the bag that gets lost!
But we vacation mostly in our 41′ MH so I just take everything I need with me! The grandkids (10 and 18 now) we’re raising know I wear diapers and it’s no big deal to them. The younger one did ask why I had so many diapers around, when I told him I had MS and had to wear them that was about all that was said.
rebaka your post was very funny, i laughed out loud. I laugh easily, it makes life better.
I have found through personal experience, reading what adrian has said, and other incontinent people, that it doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing if you are confident in yourself and who you are most people really don’t care. Some people can be rude and cruel, but they are the mindless refuge that we must wade through from time to time and they are the far minority.
Beside most people are so concerned with how they look and what they are wearing that really don’t notice other people. Most people when they go into a public area can’t tell you about one person they passed by, but they can tell you all about how they were feeling while out.
Picture? lol
AWESOME POST!! I am always looking for just these kind of tips! We have a long 2 hour drive to our beach so I usually bring a couple disposables but never have anywhere to change. The public restrooms are always so crowded and those tapes are sooo noisy! How do you go in the water? For me I don’t or just go no diap. Does anyone use cloth? Won’t it just get soo saturated ?
Hello. Sound like you had a good time on the beach. Makes me want to plan a beach trip in the future gas prices permitting for the drive of course. If I was going to wear a diapers at the beach I would most likely have a simple pair of shorts or swim trunks to keep the diaper hidden in terms of respecting others for form of underwear I would guess. Questions and Whoa and wow reactions, Yeah just stay cool and answer honsetly and don’t let it ruin your fun. If not what are some of the questions in general that people ask you when they notice your diaper?!
Oh to Jks16, I would call the airlines and stay on a Pro Facts side of things and do Q & A. If not, I believe there is a topic on this site here back in September 2009 that might have some tips for diapers on an airplane No pun to Snakes On A Plane. Hope you have a smooth flight.
Have nice day all and I’ve got some yard work to get done and need to get started.

That came to mind as well lmao
Its Not Warm enough to go to the beach yet around here ‘ also our beaches some are just filty with rocks and crap
Thanks for the great story. You always encourage me to keep doing my best to enjoy life. While i don’t love diapers as much as you do, i am thankful to have them because its obvious how much worse things would be for incontinent people if they didn’t exist.
While vacationing on Topsail Island last month, I refused to wear diapers on the beach and ended up regretting that due to not one but two accidents. However, every second that I was on the road, in a souvenir shop, buying gas, I was diapered.
If anything, I am looking for a great deal on a van. It would be much easier for me to change in it than in gas station bathrooms.
Diapers on the beach, so cute *.*
soon i am goin to live alone so i have enough time for me diapies
i wash i had the guts to do that but im too much of a baby.
I live just outside of Va Beach, hope you had a good time
i am a teen girl and when i go to the beach i wear a tight fitting disposable diaper with toddler plastic pants over it under my swim suit.my swim suit covers them completely and no one notices them.
I just came back from Virginia Beach and I am incontinent. We visited for three days and two nights and had a blast. I am 24/7 so I had diapers of course. When at the beach, I wore disposable diapers under my trunks and mostly went in the water up to the diaper area and no further the first day. I would get splashed to cool down and hung out on the sand. I have worn diapers in the water many times but you have to be careful, they can get heavy and fall off. If your swim trunks have the mesh, you should be OK as it will hold up your diapers. I went in the water day two diapers and all, they do swell up but worked out great. The only problem I had was the top of my trunks kept sliding down making my diapers show. I know others saw I am in diapers but I don’t care cuz I can’t help it.
In this regard I think your experience has a lot to do with being a women.
Being a guy it is certainly easier to hide though and I assume that is what guys should do. Even if I was confident in wearing just a diaper on the beach without shorts, I am positive I would get a lot more odd looks then a women would.
If you go to VA Beach and don’t want to worry about diapers, it’s simple. Don’t go to the resort area beaches. Drive about 35 minutes away to Pungo.
I don’t understand why you would wear a diaper at the beach (unless you suffer of fecal incontinence). I think that it is a lot easier just to get in the water after an accident. I always bring a extra towel just in case.
When traveling and using motels (usually travel in our motorhome) I carry underpads and a plastic sheet with me as well as the diapers and plastic pants. One time I did go out of town for a week for computer training and I asked the motel to provide something. They bought a plastic fitted sheet for one of the king size beds in the room. The woman manager (a cute little thing!) brought it up and asked if she could help me put it on but I was down to my diapers/plastic pants under my bath robe so I said no.
Last time we took a cruise (Holland America to Alaska again) I told them I had a special request and told them what and why. When the stewards were preparing the room the first day they put the sheet (just a plastic shower curtain) on one of the beds and nothing else was ever said. I just threw the wet diapers in the room garbage, wrapped naturally.
I’ve even found plastic sheets in the rooms just in case I guess.
I am a DL and a life long nudist.
I wear diapers down to nude beaches all the time.
I never have made a big thing about about hiding the fact i wear diapers.
I just undress like everyone else and don’t care if any one sees that i takeoff a diaper instead of regular underwear.
At the end of the day i just put on a diaper instead of underwear.
Its 3 to 4 hour drive to a nude beach from where i live and i like the convenience of not having to stop to pee.
The only people that have ever said anything are ones that wanted to know where i got the thick diapers.(i use stuffers inside for absorption)because they needed them for there own bedwetting ect.
Now that i am 60 most think i have a health problem anyway.
